What is a Submersible Pump?

A submersible pump, also known as an electric submersible pump (ESP), consists of a hermetically sealed motor that is closely coupled to the pump body. The entire unit is immersed in the fluid intended for pumping. The main advantage of this type of pump is that it prevents pump cavitation.

Submersible pumps are versatile and are found in various applications. Single-stage pumps are used for tasks such as drainage, sewage pumping, general industrial pumping, and slurry pumping. Additionally, they are commonly used in aquarium filters. In contrast, multiple-stage submersible pumps are often lowered into boreholes for water abstraction or utilised in water wells. The submersible pump’s ability to operate in submerged conditions makes it a reliable choice for efficiently handling different fluids in a range of practical settings.
