Jabsco Impellers

How to Choose the Correct Replacement

Jabsco impellers are widely used in marine, industrial, and engine cooling applications thanks to their reliability and performance. However, choosing the correct replacement impeller is critical, using the wrong size, material, or drive type can lead to reduced efficiency, overheating, or pump failure.

This guide explains how to identify and select the correct Jabsco replacement impeller, whether you already have a Jabsco pump or are replacing an impeller from another manufacturer.

Jabsco Impellers: How to Choose the Correct Replacement

Jabsco impellers are widely used in marine, industrial, and engine cooling applications thanks to their reliability and performance. However, choosing the correct replacement impeller is critical; using the wrong size, material, or drive type can lead to reduced efficiency, overheating, or pump failure.

This guide explains how to identify and select the correct Jabsco replacement impeller, whether you already have a Jabsco pump or are replacing an impeller from another manufacturer.

Why Choosing the Right Impeller Matters

The impeller is a wearing component and should be inspected and replaced regularly. A correctly matched impeller ensures:

  • Proper flow and pressure
  • Efficient cooling or fluid transfer
  • Reduced wear on pump components
  • Longer pump service life

At TF Pumps, we supply a full range of Jabsco impellers and pump spares to keep your systems running reliably.

If You Have a Jabsco Pump

Step 1: Identify Your Existing Impeller

The easiest way to identify your impeller is by using the Jabsco impeller part number, which is usually found on the original pump data sheet supplied with the pump. If you no longer have this documentation, don’t worry, you can still identify the correct impeller by measuring and inspecting the one you have.

Use the Jabsco Impeller Selection Table and answer the following questions:

  1. How many blades does the impeller have?
  2. What is the shaft diameter? (Chart A)
  3. What is the outside diameter? (Chart A)
  4. What material is required?
    • Neoprene
    • Nitrile or other compounds
  5. What type of drive does it use? (Chart B)
  6. What is the impeller depth (width)? (Chart A)

Chart A helps you accurately measure shaft diameter, outside diameter, and depth

Chart B helps you identify the correct drive type (e.g. spline, key, flat)

Accurate measurements are essential, using vernier callipers where possible is recommended.

Step 2: Use the Jabsco Impeller Selection Table

Once you’ve gathered the measurements and specifications above, use the Jabsco Impeller Part Number Table (PDF) to identify the correct replacement.

You’ll need to confirm:

  • Shaft diameter
  • Impeller depth
  • Correct material
  • Drive type

This will lead you to the exact Jabsco impeller part number required for your pump.

If You Don’t Have a Jabsco Pump

If your pump is from another manufacturer, you still have two options:

Option 1: Use the Impeller Cross-Reference Table

If you know the existing impeller part number, refer to the Non-Jabsco Pump Cross Reference PDF to find the equivalent Jabsco impeller.

Option 2: Measure Your Existing Impeller

Alternatively, follow the same measurement process outlined above and use the Jabsco Impeller Selection Table to determine the correct Jabsco replacement based on size, material, and drive.

This approach is particularly useful for older or discontinued pump models.
