Our Calpeda borehole pump range covers the MPS and MXS Series, two families of 5 inch multi-stage submersible pumps designed to lift clean water from wells, boreholes, tanks and reservoirs. Both ranges are built around a stainless steel jacket with the hydraulics mounted below the motor, so the pumped water cools the motor as it flows through. They serve domestic, civil, agricultural and industrial water supply duties across the UK.
The MPS Series pairs a stainless steel outer jacket with hard-wearing Noryl impellers, offering excellent value for everyday clean water duties. The MXS Series steps up to all stainless steel hydraulics for extra durability and higher performance. Both ranges are available in single phase and three phase versions, with single phase models featuring a built-in capacitor that can be accessed without dismantling the pump.
These pumps fit wells with an internal diameter of just 140mm and can operate at immersion depths of up to 20 metres. A suction strainer keeps out solids larger than 2mm, and a double shaft seal with an oil chamber protects the motor. They can even run safely with the motor only partially submerged, which is a real advantage in shallow tanks. If you are unsure which range or model suits your borehole, our team can help you choose.

We stock the full MPS and MXS Series, both of which are 5 inch multi-stage submersible pumps. The MPS range uses Noryl impellers inside a stainless steel jacket, while the MXS range has all stainless steel hydraulics. Between them they cover most domestic, agricultural and light industrial water supply duties.
The key difference is the impeller material. MPS pumps use tough Noryl technopolymer impellers, which keeps costs down for everyday clean water duties, while MXS pumps use stainless steel throughout for maximum durability and higher heads. Both share the same 5 inch format and overall construction.
Both ranges are 5 inch pumps that fit wells and boreholes with a minimum internal diameter of 140mm. They can also stand on the flat bottom of a tank or reservoir thanks to the cylindrical suction strainer at the base. Maximum immersion depth is 20 metres with a suitable cable length.
Typical applications include private water supplies from wells and boreholes, drawing from storage tanks and reservoirs, garden and irrigation systems, and rainwater harvesting. They suit domestic, civil and industrial installations alike. They are designed for clean water duties with only fine particles present.
