The Calpeda A Series is a range of close coupled self-priming centrifugal pumps with an open impeller, built for duties where the pump sits above the water it is moving. A built-in backflow preventer stops water siphoning back when the pump stops, so it re-primes automatically at the next start, even with a completely empty suction pipe. That makes the A Series a dependable choice for draining basins and sumps, irrigation and general civil and industrial duties.
The open impeller design lets these pumps handle clean or slightly dirty water containing solids up to 10mm on the A 40 and A 50 models, and up to 15mm on the larger A 65 and A 80 models. Pump casings and lantern brackets are cast iron, with bronze versions available to order for more aggressive liquids. Liquid temperatures from -10 up to +90 degrees Celsius are covered, so warm water duties are no problem.
We stock fifteen A Series models with BSP connections from 1 1/2″ up to 3″, across single phase and three phase motor options up to 400/690V for the larger pumps. All are close coupled, so the motor bolts directly to the pump for a compact and low maintenance unit. If your application involves lifting water from below pump level, this is one of the most trusted ranges available, and our team can size the right model for you.

It is a close coupled self-priming centrifugal pump with an open impeller, designed for suction lift duties. A built-in backflow preventer keeps the casing primed between runs, so the pump restarts without manual filling. It is widely used for drainage, irrigation and civil and industrial water handling.
Thanks to the open impeller, the A 40 and A 50 models pass solids up to 10mm, while the larger A 65 and A 80 models handle up to 15mm. That makes them suitable for slightly dirty water, such as sump drainage or surface water. They are not sewage pumps, so heavy solids and fibrous material should be avoided.
Typical duties include draining basins, pits and sumps, irrigation, water transfer and general civil and industrial applications where the pump sits above the liquid. The tolerance for slightly dirty water broadens the range of jobs it can take on. It is a common sight on farms, in factories and around groundworks.
The A Series is rated for liquid temperatures from -10 up to +90 degrees Celsius, with ambient temperatures up to 40 degrees. That covers cold outdoor duties through to warm process water. As always, check the liquid is compatible with cast iron, or ask about the bronze version for aggressive fluids.
