Self-Priming Power in a Compact Package

The Calpeda MXA Series is one of those pumps that quietly solves a lot of problems. It is a horizontal multi-stage pump that primes itself, so you can draw water up from a tank, well or sump without a foot valve fighting you every morning. Suction lift reaches up to 8 metres, which is plenty for most domestic, garden and irrigation jobs. If you need decent pressure but not huge volume, this is the range to look at.

Stainless Steel Where It Counts

Calpeda builds the MXA around a single-piece barrel casing in chrome-nickel stainless steel, with the stages in Noryl. The suction port sits above the pump axis at the front, with radial delivery at the top, which keeps the whole unit tidy and easy to pipe in. We stock 12 models here, all with 1″ BSP connections, split evenly between single-phase MXAM units at 230v and three-phase MXA units at 230/400v. Motor outputs run from 0.55kW to 1.1kW, and the biggest model in the range will push past 50 metres of head.

Fit It, Forget It

These pumps are close-coupled, so there is no coupling to align and no baseplate to level. Bolt it down, connect your pipework and go. The motors carry IP54 protection with Class F insulation, and the three-phase versions meet IE3 efficiency (IE2 up to 0.65kW). Keep the liquid between 0°C and 35°C and the casing under 8 bar and the MXA will run continuous duty all day long. Every one comes with our technical support behind it, so you are never stuck guessing.

The MXA holds a small volume of water in its casing, which lets it evacuate air from the suction line and pull liquid up without being flooded first. That means you can install it above your water source rather than below it. Suction lift is rated up to 8 metres, though shorter runs will always prime faster.

No, and this catches people out. The MXA is rated for liquid temperatures from 0°C to 35°C only, which is lower than most of the Calpeda multistage range. If you need to move warmer liquid, have a word with our team and we will point you at something like the MXH Series instead.

Absolutely, it is one of the most common uses we see. The self-priming action suits drawing from a rainwater tank, stream or shallow well, and the pressure it generates is ideal for feeding sprinklers and drip lines. It is equally at home on domestic water supply and pressure boosting duties.

Mount it horizontally on a firm, level base with the support feet underneath, and get it as close to the water source as you sensibly can. Prime the casing through the filling plug before first start-up and fit a pressure gauge on the delivery side. The motors carry IP54 protection, so a sheltered indoor or covered outdoor position works best.
