If you have spent any time around pump rooms, you will probably have met an N Series. This is Calpeda’s single-stage centrifugal family, and is comfortably one of the biggest ranges we carry from them. It covers everything from a modest 1″ close-coupled unit up to a 200mm flanged pump, so whether you are circulating heating water, feeding an irrigation main or backing up a fire system, there is a size that fits.
The range splits neatly. The N and N4 bare-shaft pumps are end-suction units with a bearing bracket, built to EN 733 duty points and dimensions, with back pull-out construction so you can strip the wet end without touching the pipework. The NM models are close-coupled with the motor shaft driving the impeller directly, and the NMD versions carry two back-to-back impellers with axial thrust balancing for extra head. B-NM units give you a bronze body where water quality demands it. Most are cast iron with brass or cast iron impellers, and we list both BSP and flanged connections.
These pumps handle clean liquids with a solids content up to 0.2%, and the electropump versions comply with European Regulation 547/2012. Voltages run right across 230v, 230/400v, 400v and 400/690v, so specifying for site supply is rarely a problem. Back pull-out on the bare-shaft models makes seal changes genuinely quick. The N models are bare-shaft end-suction pumps on a bearing bracket, driven by a separate motor. NM models are close-coupled, with the impeller mounted straight onto an extended motor shaft, which makes them far more compact. NMD models are close-coupled too, but carry two impellers back to back for higher head, with the arrangement balancing out axial thrust.
Not really. These are designed for clean liquids without abrasives, with a solids content of no more than 0.2%. Anything dirtier will chew through the impeller and seal faster than you would like. For waste water and drainage, take a look at our Calpeda submersible and sewage range.
Plenty. Water supply, heating, air conditioning, cooling and circulation plants, general civil and industrial duties, agriculture and irrigation all use these pumps daily. The larger models are also widely specified for fire-fighting applications.
It means the motor, bearing bracket and impeller can be withdrawn from the casing while the casing stays bolted to your pipework. You do not have to break any pipe joints to change a seal or inspect the impeller, which cuts downtime significantly on a routine service.
