Flux Acids and Alkalis Drum Pumps

Flux acids and alkalis drum pumps are the workhorses of chemical decanting, moving corrosive liquids out of drums and IBCs without tipping, siphoning or manual handling. Polypropylene construction gives broad resistance across the acids and alkalis most plants deal with day to day. These pumps sit in the Flux 400 series, so they bring proper industrial flow rates rather than the modest output of a compact unit. For general chemical handling, this is the range most sites end up using.

Sealless Construction for Corrosive Duty

The sealless design removes the mechanical seal from the liquid path entirely, which matters more with corrosives than with anything else. There is no seal to degrade, the inner tube drains cleanly, and service life is long even on chemicals that would quickly destroy a conventional arrangement. Flux specifically recommends this construction for hydrochloric and chromic acid. It also means fewer wear parts to stock and replace.

Performance and Sizing

The 400 series delivers considerably more throughput than the compact ranges, which makes short work of emptying a full drum. Polypropylene handles acids, alkalis and aqueous salt solutions across a wide concentration band, though compatibility always depends on the specific chemical, its strength and its temperature. Immersion lengths cover 200 litre drums and IBCs. Where you are dealing with concentrated acids such as strong sulphuric acid, our Concentrated Acids range in PVDF is the better fit.

Polypropylene is the universal standard material for chemically resistant pumping and covers most acids, alkalis and aqueous salt solutions found in general industry. That includes hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, sodium hydroxide and similar. Concentration and temperature both matter, so verify your specific fluid before ordering.

PVDF offers higher chemical and thermal resistance than polypropylene, and it is the material Flux specifies for concentrated acids such as strong sulphuric acid. If your chemical sits at the aggressive end of the scale or runs warm, look at our Concentrated Acids range. Our team can help you decide where the line falls.

A mechanical seal is a wear part sitting directly in the liquid, and aggressive chemicals attack it. Removing the seal removes that failure point, extends service life and lets the inner tube drain properly after use. Flux particularly recommends sealless pumps for hydrochloric and chromic acid.

No. Sealless pumps rely on the liquid for lubrication and abrasive particles risk damaging the bearing. For chemicals carrying grit or crystallised solids, a mechanically sealed pump with a foot strainer is the right choice. Tell us what is in your fluid and we will point you to the right design.

Absolutely! If you’re unsure which pump is the best fit for your application, our team is here to help.
