Flux flammable liquids drum pumps are ATEX certified for handling solvents, fuels and other highly flammable products in classified hazardous areas. Stainless steel construction is not optional here, it is the material Flux uses for every one of its ATEX rated pumps. These pumps move acetone, petrol, ethanol, butanol, toluene and similar solvents safely out of drums and IBCs. Where there is a flash point to worry about, this is the range you need.
ATEX compliance has to cover the whole assembly, not just one component. The motor must not spark in the surrounding atmosphere, and the pump itself must not generate a spark internally as flammable liquid passes through it. Flux certifies these pumps under Directive 2014/34/EU with PTB testing behind them, and supplies them as complete kits including conductive hose, earthing cable and a metal nozzle. Using a non ATEX pump or motor on a flammable duty is dangerous and breaches health and safety requirements.
Both drive options appear in this range and each has its place. Electric explosion proof motors are convenient and quiet where a suitable supply exists. Compressed air motors are inherently safe, adjust smoothly for speed by varying the air supply, and suit sites where mains power in the hazardous area is limited, which is common in fuel handling and chemical plant. Air motors also run cooler on continuous duty. Our team can talk through which drive suits your site services.

ATEX covers equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres under Directive 2014/34/EU. For a drum pump that means both the motor and the pump tube need certification, because the motor must not ignite the surrounding atmosphere and the pump must not spark internally as flammable liquid flows through it. Certified equipment carries CE and Ex markings.
Solvents and fuels, including acetone, petrol, ethanol, butanol, toluene and similar products. Anything with a flash point that puts the working area into a classified zone belongs on an ATEX pump. If you are unsure whether your liquid qualifies, check the safety data sheet or send it to us.
It usually comes down to site services. If you have a compressed air supply in the hazardous area, an air motor is a good fit and gives smooth variable speed control by adjusting the air. If mains power is easier to reach, an explosion proof electric motor is more efficient to run. Both are safe when correctly specified.
Flux builds every one of its ATEX rated drum pumps in stainless steel, because the material combines the necessary conductivity and mechanical properties with broad resistance to solvents. Polypropylene and aluminium versions of Flux pumps exist for other duties, but they are not available with explosion protection.
