Pedrollo Peripheral Pumps - Compact Pumps For High Head On Clean Water

Peripheral pumps are the ones you reach for when you need a decent amount of head but only a modest flow, and you want it from a small, simple unit. The vaned impeller picks the water up and passes it round the casing in stages, building pressure as it goes, so a compact peripheral will push water higher than a centrifugal of the same size. That makes the Pedrollo peripheral range a sensible choice for pressure boosting, topping up small pressure sets and everyday clean water transfer.

Five Ranges To Suit The Duty

We stock the full Pedrollo peripheral line-up, and the differences between the ranges really come down to build and where they are meant to work. The cast iron PK and self-priming PKS cover general clean water duties, the versatile PQ stretches from domestic jobs up to industrial use, and the non-ferrous PQA and PV are built for the warm, continuous duties you find on cooling and air conditioning plant. Picking the right one is mostly about the fluid, the duty point and whether corrosion is a concern.

Clean Water, Single Or Three Phase

Every pump in this group is designed for clean water that is free of abrasive particles and not chemically aggressive towards the pump materials. They are surface-mounted and want a sheltered installation rather than being left out in the weather. Most ranges come in single or three-phase versions, so they drop into both light commercial and larger industrial setups without much fuss.

A peripheral pump, sometimes called a regenerative or turbine pump, uses a vaned impeller that picks up the liquid and circulates it around the casing, building pressure in stages. The result is high head from a compact, low-flow pump, which is exactly what you want for boosting and transfer rather than moving large volumes.

Go peripheral when you need good head but only a modest flow, and space or budget is tight. If you need to shift large volumes at lower pressure, a centrifugal is the better fit. For pressure boosting, autoclave top-up and small transfer duties, a peripheral usually wins on size and cost.

Clean water without abrasive particles, and liquids that are not chemically aggressive towards the pump materials. Grit, solids or harsh chemistry will wear a peripheral quickly because of its fine internal clearances, so they are not the right tool for dirty or aggressive duties.

As a rough guide: PK for general clean water, PKS where the line sees air and needs to self-prime, PQ as the all-rounder from home to industry, and PQA or PV where corrosion resistance matters on cooling and air con. If you are unsure, tell us the duty and we will narrow it down.
