Yamada have been building air operated double diaphragm pumps in Japan for decades, and the reason engineers keep specifying them comes down to the air valve. We stock three of their ranges here: the compact DP series, the newer G Series, and the NDP series that forms the backbone of the line-up. Between them you get connection sizes from 1/4 inch right through to 3 inch.
Yamada’s NDP pumps use a completely non-lubricated main air valve with independent pilot mechanisms, a design protected by three patents and built specifically to avoid stalling. The G Series takes a different route with a step spool that removes the separate pilot valve altogether, cutting parts count and air consumption. Every pump in the range uses bolted construction rather than clamp bands, which means fewer leaks and far less frustration on reassembly.
Body materials across the range include aluminium, 316 stainless steel, cast iron, polypropylene, PVDF, PTFE and conductive options in both acetal and PVDF. Centre sections come in aluminium, polypropylene or PPS, and diaphragms run from nitrile, EPDM and neoprene through to Santoprene, TPE and PTFE. Over 200 products in this category are ATEX-rated.

The DP series covers the smallest duties in 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch, built for low flow transfer and dispensing. The G Series is Yamada’s newer global design using a step spool air valve, aimed at spraying, dispensing and stop-start work in 1/2 inch and 1 inch. The NDP series is the broad industrial range, spanning 1/4 inch to 3 inch and the widest choice of body materials.
Air operated double diaphragm pumps need no motor, no mechanical seal and no variable speed drive, and they can be run dry or deadheaded without damage. That makes them well suited to portable duties, hazardous areas and fluids that would destroy a conventional pump. You control flow simply by throttling the air supply.
Many of them are. Over 200 of the products in this category carry an ATEX rating, covering all three series. If you are specifying for a zoned area, tell us the zone and equipment category required and we will confirm which build codes are suitable.
Yes, within limits. The ball or flat check valve design allows a certain amount of suspended solid to pass, with the permissible particle size increasing as the pump size goes up. Exact solids handling varies by model and valve type, so check the datasheet for the specific pump or ask our team.
