The preferred distillery pump is an ATEX-rated Air Operated Double Diaphragm (AODD) pump. This type of distillery AODD pump is well-suited to flammable distillery environments. It’s also extremely versatile, handling a wide range of liquids—including those that are hot, cold, thick, thin, clean, or solid-laden.
Another option is an ATEX-rated peristaltic pump or an ATEX-rated electrically driven double diaphragm pump. These models are also appropriate for hazardous areas, though it’s important to note that their initial cost is often much higher than a standard AODD pump.
However, not all applications require an ATEX-rated solution. In non-ATEX areas, simpler pumps for distilling can be used. For example, removing botanicals after flavouring might only call for a basic, non-ATEX pump.
In distilleries where flammable liquids are handled in large volumes, safety is critical. Choosing an ATEX-rated pump ensures compliance and reduces the risk of fire or explosion. More importantly, selecting the right pump for your exact needs will help minimise downtime and maximise profits.
