ARO is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps, with over 95 years of experience in fluid handling. All ARO pumps operate on compressed air rather than electricity, making them inherently safe for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and suitable for applications where electric motors cannot be used.
The unbalanced air valve design ensures no-stall operation, the pump will not freeze mid-cycle even under high back pressure or restricted flow conditions. ARO pumps can also run dry without damage, and are self-priming from up to several metres of suction lift. These properties make them suitable for batch transfer, drum emptying, chemical dosing, viscous fluid handling, and abrasive applications where a standard centrifugal pump would fail.
The Classic and Compact ranges address small OEM and light industrial duties. The Pro range covers general industrial applications. The Expert (EXP) series is ARO’s premium process pump for heavy-duty chemical, oil and gas, and petrochemical duties. The PW and Speciality ranges address specific applications including fuel transfer and sanitary use.

An AODD pump uses compressed air to alternately flex two diaphragms, creating alternating suction and discharge cycles. This positive displacement design allows the pump to handle fluids ranging from thin solvents to thick, abrasive slurries without damage.
ARO’s patented Unbalanced air valve design ensures no-stall operation, the pump cannot freeze mid-cycle, even under high back pressure. Combined with run-dry capability and self-priming operation, this gives ARO pumps a very high uptime record in demanding applications.
Most ARO diaphragm pumps are ATEX certified (CE Ex II 2GD X), confirming suitability for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. This makes them a natural choice for chemical, oil and gas, and petrochemical environments.
Typical applications include chemical transfer, paint and coatings handling, adhesive and resin pumping, food and beverage transfer, pharmaceutical processing, drum and IBC emptying, wastewater treatment dosing, and general industrial fluid transfer.
