The Calpeda GX Series is the stainless steel answer to submersible drainage. Every one is built from chrome-nickel stainless steel with a vertical delivery port, which makes it a far better bet than cast iron where the water is corrosive or the pump is going to spend its life submerged. We stock 35 models across the range, in 1 1/4″ and 1 1/2″ BSP connections.
This is where the GX range gets genuinely useful. The GXR models use an open impeller for clean water with solids up to 10 to 12mm. The GXV models fit a free-flow vortex impeller, handling clean or slightly dirty water with solids up to 25mm and coping well with filamentous material. The GXC models use a two-passage channel impeller for clean and dirty water with solids up to 35mm, and their smooth rolled-stainless surfaces make them suitable for certain food industry uses. There is also the compact GX Zero, which drains down to a remarkably low level.
The motor is cooled by the pumped water travelling between the motor jacket and the outer jacket, and a double shaft seal with an oil chamber sits between the wet end and the motor. Twenty of our models come with a float switch fitted for automatic operation, and 15 are manual. Twenty-four run on single-phase 230v and 11 on three-phase 400v. Maximum immersion depth is 5 metres across the range.

Stainless steel handles corrosive water far better and will not rust when the pump sits submerged for long periods. It is also lighter, which makes handling and installation easier, and the smooth surfaces on models like the GXC are much simpler to clean down.
It comes down to impeller design. GXR uses an open impeller for clean water with solids up to 10 to 12mm. GXV uses a free-flow vortex impeller for slightly dirty water with solids up to 25mm. GXC uses a two-passage channel impeller and takes solids up to 35mm.
A vortex impeller sits recessed in the casing and creates a whirlpool that carries solids through without them passing directly across the impeller vanes. That is exactly what you want when the liquid contains rags, fibres or a high solid content, because there is far less to jam against.
The GX Zero is the compact model in the range, built to drain water down to an exceptionally low residual level. That makes it the right tool for clearing the last of the water from a flooded floor or a shallow tray, where a standard submersible would stop with water still sitting there.
