When a thermoplastic pool pump is not quite enough, the Calpeda NMP Series steps in. These are close-coupled self-priming centrifugal pumps with a cast iron casing and lantern bracket, protected by a cataphoresis coating, and fitted with a built-in strainer basket as standard. They are the pump of choice for larger domestic pools and commercial filtration systems where the duty is relentless.
The strainer basket is drilled with 3mm holes, catching debris while keeping restriction low. Total suction lift reaches up to 7 metres, so the pump can sit well above pool level in a plant room. Maximum working pressure is 6 bar, which is more than double what a typical thermoplastic pool pump allows, and water temperature is rated up to 60°C. We stock 7 models, five on 2″ connections and two on 2 1/2″, with outputs from 0.75HP up to 2HP.
These use 2-pole induction motors running at roughly 2900 rpm, with Class F insulation and IPX4 protection. Six of our models are single-phase NMPM units on 230v, with one three-phase NMP unit on 230/400v. Larger NMP models are available on request if your duty runs beyond what is listed. Handle clean or slightly dirty water with solids in suspension and keep the basket clear, and these will run for years.

Robustness and pressure rating, mostly. The cast iron NMP takes a maximum working pressure of 6 bar against the MPC’s 2.5 bar, and it handles heavier commercial duty cycles better. If your pool is large, your plant room is busy or the system pressure is higher, NMP is the safer specification.
Cataphoresis is an electro-deposited coating that puts an even, well-bonded protective layer over the cast iron, including in awkward internal areas a spray coating would miss. It significantly slows corrosion in the damp, chemically active environment a pool plant room creates.
The strainer basket is drilled with 3mm holes, so anything larger gets caught before it reaches the impeller. The pump itself is rated for clean or slightly dirty water with solids in suspension, so it copes with the fine material that gets through, but it is not a debris pump.
Total suction lift is rated up to 7 metres. In practice, keeping it shorter will give you faster priming and better performance, so mount the pump as close to pool level as your plant room allows. Airtight suction joints matter more than the height figure.
