High-Head Grinder Pumps For Difficult Discharge

The JS GS and GST series are submersible sewage grinder macerator pumps designed for applications where high discharge head, long discharge runs, or small-bore pipework prevent the use of standard sewage pumps. A high-chromium grinder ring mechanism reduces soft solids to small fragments at up to 28,000 cuts per minute, allowing the pump to push waste through 1 1/4″ or 2″ discharge against substantial head.

Full GS And GST Lineup From 1.2kW To 3.7kW

The GS1200 (110V or 230V) delivers 120 LPM at 20m head, while the GS1500 (230V) reaches 145 LPM at 25m head. The three-phase 415V GST range starts with the GST12 (120 LPM, 20m), GST15 (150 LPM, 25m), GST22 (320 LPM, 26m, 2″ outlet), and GST37 (320 LPM, 36m, 2″). Tungsten carbide cutters work against the high-chromium grinder ring for long service life.

Twin Seals And Robust Construction

Every GS and GST pump uses twin mechanical seals, carbon ceramic and silicon carbide, running in a lubricated oil chamber for protection in continuous service. Pumps can be supplied free-standing or guide-rail mounted with a side vertical outlet that becomes a coupling foot connection. Manual or automatic versions are available, with Mac 3 float switch automation as standard. All come with 10 metres of power cable.

A grinder macerator pump combines a centrifugal sewage pump with a cutting mechanism at the inlet that grinds soft solids into small fragments before they enter the impeller. This lets the pump push waste through small-bore discharge pipework at much higher pressures than a standard sewage pump could manage.

Grinder pumps are used where standard sewage pumps cannot reach the required head, where the discharge pipework is too small for full-bore sewage (typically 1 1/4″ or 2″), or where the discharge run is too long. Common applications include high-rise buildings, basement pumping, long underground runs, and sites with restricted civils.

The cutting mechanism uses tungsten carbide cutters running against a high-chromium grinder ring. The cutters rotate at high speed to deliver up to 28,000 cuts per minute, which reduces fibres, paper, and other soft solids to fragments small enough to pass through the pump and the discharge pipework without blockage.

Yes. The GS1200 is commonly used in domestic basement and below-mains-sewer applications because the single-phase 110V or 230V supply matches domestic electrics. The grinder mechanism is essential for pumping macerated waste through 1 1/4″ pipework over significant heads.
