Single-Phase Shredder Pumps For Fibrous Waste

The JS-SK range comprises 110V and 230V single-phase submersible sewage shredder impeller pumps designed for waste streams containing rags, wipes, and other fibrous material that would clog a vortex or closed impeller. The shredder impeller has a cutting edge that slices fibrous material as it enters the impeller, preventing rag accumulation around the impeller hub.

Two Single-Phase Models

The range includes the JS750SK (110V or 230V, 400 LPM, 14m head, 2″ outlet) and the JS1500SK (230V, 800 LPM, 16m head, 3″ outlet). Stainless steel SKSS variants are also available for chemical or aggressive waste applications where standard cast iron would corrode. Both models are supplied manual or automatic with Mac 3 float switch.

Twin Seals And Guide-Rail Compatibility

Like the rest of the JS submersible sewage range, the SK pumps use twin mechanical seals, carbon ceramic and silicon carbide, running in a lubricated oil chamber for long service life. Pumps are supplied free-standing as standard, with coupling foot and guide-rail kits available for permanent wet-well installations. Every pump comes with 10 metres of power cable.

A shredder pump uses a special impeller with sharpened cutting edges that slice fibrous material, rags, wipes, sanitary products, into smaller pieces as it enters the impeller. This prevents the rag accumulation that clogs vortex and closed-impeller pumps on the same waste streams, making shredder pumps essential for problem installations.

Choose a shredder pump where wipes, rags, or other fibrous content is a known problem and where a vortex pump has been clogging repeatedly. Shredder pumps are also a sensible default for any new sewage installation that will see significant rag content, since the prevalence of wet wipes in modern wastewater has made shredding the safer choice.

The JS750SKSS and JS1500SKSS are stainless steel versions of the standard cast iron SK pumps. They are used for chemical, corrosive, or aggressive wastewater where standard cast iron would corrode. The shredder impeller, pump body, and hardware are all stainless steel for chemical resistance.

Yes, within the shredding capability. The cutting action breaks down fibrous material into smaller pieces, but the pump is not a grinder and cannot reduce hard solids. For sewage applications with normal solid content plus rags, the SK is the right choice. For applications needing very high discharge head or small-bore pipework, the GS grinder range is a better fit.
