Sometimes the only sensible place for a pump is at the bottom of the thing you are trying to empty. Calpeda’s submersible range does exactly that, sitting in the liquid with the motor cooled by the water around it. We carry 122 models here, covering everything from clearing a flooded cellar to grinding and pumping waste water in a commercial installation.
The GQ Series is the biggest group, built around cast iron bodies and covering both the open-impeller GQR drainage pumps and the GQG grinder pumps for waste water. The GX Series is fully stainless steel, offering open, vortex and channel impeller options for anything from clean water to solids-laden liquid. A couple of MP Series multistage submersibles round things out where you need pressure as well as drainage. Connections run from 1 1/4″ up to 2″ and 50mm, in both BSP and flanged.
Twenty-one of our models come with a float switch fitted, which means they start and stop themselves as the water level rises and falls, ideal for a sump or cellar you would rather not think about. The other 101 are manual, giving you control from a panel or level controller. Sixty models run on single-phase 230v and 62 on three-phase 400v. Every one uses a double shaft seal with an oil chamber to protect against dry running.

Materials and application, mainly. The GQ Series uses cast iron construction and covers drainage duties plus the grinder models for waste water. The GX Series is chrome-nickel stainless steel throughout, which suits more corrosive liquids and gives you a wider choice of impeller types for different solid sizes.
If the pump will be left unattended in a sump or cellar, yes. A float switch starts the pump when the water rises and stops it when the level drops, so nothing has to be monitored. If you are running from a control panel or level controller, a manual pump is the better choice.
Maximum immersion depth across the range is 5 metres. There are also minimum levels to observe so the motor stays cooled, and these vary by model. Check the specific pump before installing in a shallow sump.
It depends entirely on the model. GQR drainage pumps handle solids up to 10mm, GQG grinder pumps pass 6mm after grinding, and the GX range covers up to 10 to 12mm on open impellers, 25mm on vortex and 35mm on channel impellers. Tell us what is in the water and we will match it.
